Winter Themed Nursery

Winter Themed Nursery Decor Mood Board

Let it snow! Let is snow! Let is snow! When it comes to nursery decor, people find inspiration absolutely everywhere. Today, we were inspired by the blast of cold air that greets us each morning as December comes knocking on our door!

Snowy weather doesn’t always have to be frightful. In fact, a winter themed nursery can actually be extremely warm and comforting to your baby. If you love snow flakes and snowmen, and if winter is your favorite season, then this mood board is for you!

Here are some suggestions for a winter themed nursery decor:

  1. Paint – We went straight to the experts over at Benjamin Moore and explored color through their virtual fan deck. We selected the Violet White color for this mood board, but other great colors include Snow White, Winter Snow, Gray Cloud, Misty Gray and Ice Mist. These colors are all part of the Off-White Color collection, which are sophisticated and also suit tranquil, serene environments.
  2. Crib – The crib is the centerpiece of your nursery, and our Seaside Lifestyle crib in Classic White is perfect for your winter themed nursery. A truly transitional design that fits well with any decor, it’s charming, practical, fresh and has a relaxed, vintage feel that adds warmth to this winter themed nursery.
  3. Blanket -Keep your baby warm and cuddly with this luxurious, plush security blanket by Kidsline Katie Little. We think white works best, but blue or pink would add some color and look wonderful in this nursery!
  4. Wall art – You can’t have a winter themed nursery without some snow flakes! These snowflake decals were a real find on Etsy! At just $37.50, you get a total of 9 starbursts in the two colors of your choice. White and blue would look great on the Violet Mist paint background, but you can be as creative as you’d like to add a pop of color to this winter themed nursery. The decals are made of high quality, self-adhesive and waterproof vinyl and can be applied to any clean, smooth, flat and semi textured surface. They can also be cut to custom size!
  5. Mobile – Add a touch of elegance to your baby’s winter themed nursery with this beautiful crystal and pearl mobile chandelier with perched swan birds. Another great Etsy find, we absolutely fell in love with its grace and elegance. The lovely design is like something right out of a story book. The mobile is adorned with top quality acrylic crystals and pearls in white and clear while the center strand can incorporate any custom colors you’d like such as pink, purple, green, blue, yellow, brown or even left white for a sophisticated look. Perched upon the spiral encrusted design are two spectacular white feathered swans, which adds such tranquility to the room!
  6. Diaper Holder – What’s a winter themed nursery without some snowmen? This adorable little holiday themed basket is perfect for a diaper holder, which will add some color to the changing table and stimulate your baby during all those daily diaper changes! Another great find on Etsy, this basket is handmade and reinforced with multiple layers of professional weight interfacing for sturdiness, but still remains soft to the touch.
  7. Decorative Name Plate – Last but not least, this Snowmen custom family name personalized slate sign is perfect to hang on the nursery door. Once again, we found this gem on Etsy, and it’s 100% handmade. Add your newest addition to your family in the form of a baby snowman on this great plaque. The artist will paint whatever scarf color you’d like, and will craft the number of snow folks in your own family! It’s a great way to set the tone of what’s behind the nursery door!

Nursery Decoration Trends and the Tree Mural

Tree Mural

At Bonavita, we like to stay on top of the trends, especially when it comes to nursery decor. Recently, we’ve noticed that the tree decal is extremely popular! Wondering why, we decided to ask one of our favorite nursery decoration authorities, Pamela Ginocchio, over at Project Nursery.

Bonavita: Why is the tree mural so popular in the nursery?

Pam: We sure do see a lot of trees as focal points in the nursery and children’s rooms. I think that parents and kids are drawn to the serene feeling trees and nature bring to a room. It is also a nice gender neutral symbol for shared spaces or nurseries. I prefer tree wall decals to murals so that it can be easily changed up as the room evolves with the childs age.

Here are just a couple of Pamela’s favorite tree murals:

  • For modern and bright, try notNeutrals tree decals
  • If you’re looking for sweet and tranquil, try this one as featured on Project Nursery
  • This one available on Etsy is a nice spin on the tree decals. Pam especially loves the “aqua and orange”.
  • Who doesn’t love the children’s book No More Monkeys Jumpin on the Bed? Now you can have these little guys on the walls!
  • Tree wallpaper is also a great alternative.
  • And, for those who have their heart set on a painted mural, talk to your local muralist and who them pictures of what you envision. According to Pam, you can use this site to find a local muralist.

What do you think about the tree mural? Love it for your baby’s nursery? Think it’s a fading trend? Comment below and let us know!

How the Stars Decorate Their Nurseries

Celine Dion, Matt Damon, Neil Patrick Harris, Alicia Keyes, the list of stars who have given birth this month is wonderfully long! We are anxiously awaiting some first shots of these celebrity babies’ nurseries! But, until the glossy photos come out, we decided to scour the net to find out what nursery designers to the stars have been doing to ready the nurseries of Hollywood’s newest additions.

According to Shalena Smith, who worked with celebrity Dads like Sean “Diddy” Combs, Wayne Brady, and Sean Patrick Thomas, “a comfortable chair for breast-feeding, story-reading, and bonding is really important”. Just think about all the hours you will spend rocking and feeding your newborns, and then make sure to pick up the most comfortable chair for you!

Smith also thinks that the ceiling is often overlooked when designing and decorating a nursery. “Babies spend a lot of time looking at the ceiling, which makes it the perfect place to hang a beautiful chandelier or paint a sky mural.”  At the very least, a colorful mobile that works with the design of the bedroom would make an excellent addition to your baby’s nursery!

Bonavita LifeStyle Convertible Crib Seaside Collection

Finally, Shalena Smith advises parents to invest in furniture that will grow with your child. “If you’re going to splurge on something, an armoire, a bureau, or a dresser will have life beyond the nursery.”  As you know, Bonavita’s Lifestyle Convertible Cribs® take your newborn through adulthood, converting from a crib to a toddler bed and eventually into a beautifully crafted, comfortable full sized bed.

Baby Nursery Decor Tips

Hudson Classic Crib in Classic White

We are having such a great time at the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas, and have met so many bloggers at the LaJobi Booth #1303 these past few days! We were really excited about meeting the ladies over at Project Nursery. You may remember we did a Q&A with Project Nursery’s Pamela Ginocchio this summer, and yesterday’s meeting inspired today’s blog post.

There are so many elements to think about when it comes to designing and decorating your baby’s nursery. So, we decided to provide you with the top five “C’s” to help get you started.

#1 Crib – Select the crib, since it will be the centerpiece of the room. Many top interior designers encourage people to take the one piece they absolutely adore, and design the room around that piece. When it comes to a baby’s nursery, that piece is definitely the crib.

#2 Color – Deciding on the color palate is definitely the next step, and should reflect the fashion of the crib. Use gender specific pastels like pink and blue, or gender neutrals such as yellow, green and classic white for a softer feel to the nursery. If you want to create a space that stimulates your baby, go for patterned wallpaper, shapes and even a mural.

#3 Character – Use whimsical characters to help with the theme of your baby’s nursery, and to give the room a personality that your baby will grow into. We’ve seen some amazing nurseries built around Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar book, Winnie the Poo, and classic Disney characters like Snow White and The Little Mermaid. It’s a great way to make the storybooks come to life for your little one!

#4 Closets – And the rest of the furniture that will share the room with your baby. Make sure to choose a dresser, changing table, closet, bookshelf and any other furniture to match the design of the crib. And, keep in mind that your nursery will grow along with your toddler, so your furnishings should be functional to accommodate the needs of your growing baby.

#5 Constants – As your baby grows up, a number of items in the nursery will likely disappear. Within a couple of years, the room will no longer need a changing table, diaper caddy and wipes. Make sure you select certain items that will grow with your child. Cribs that transform into toddler beds are a great selection, as the design stays the same and you won’t have to replace the rest of the furnishings to accommodate a new crib.

The Bonavita Hudson Classic Crib, pictured above as a crib and below as a toddler bed, is a piece that will take your baby from infancy into adulthood.

You just might want to get rid of the teddy bears by the time your baby is a teenager.

Penelope Cruz Expecting!

According to Celebrity-Babies, another great website about celebrities and their children, representatives for Spanish supercouple Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem have confirmed that Penelope is 4 1/2 months pregnant!
Recently photographed on the set of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, filming in Puerto Rico, Penelope wore a loose, flowy top to hide her budding baby bump.
When it comes to personal style, Penelope Cruz is known for her sophisticated selections. This well-know couture afficonado has almost every single leading fashion designer clamoring to dress her for major events, and she has been photographed wearing one-of-a-kind designer gowns by everyone from Balmain to Chanel couture collection. Yet, it’s also well known that Penelope has a penchant for vintage, which we can only guess translates to the decor style in her home.
For the sophisticated Mommy, with a love of couture, vintage and sophisticated clothing, we think the Liberty Lifestyle Crib in Charleston Cherry would be a great pick for the nursery!

What do you think about Penelope’s personal style and how it will translate to the baby’s nursery? Comment below!

Babble Top 50 Best Dressed Moms

We are really big fans of Babble, a great resource for new parents. This site has wonderful content for parents at every stage of – well – parenting! We particularly like their Top 50 lists, which they periodically publish. And, while we think it’s still a wee bit early in the year to publish any best of 2010 list, we love their recently posted Top 50 Best Dressed Moms of 2010!

These days, we’re not surprised to see a list begin with Angelina Jolie, who we admit is one of the most glamorous Mothers in Hollywood. Coming in at #2 is Victoria Beckham, who always looks like she’s going to a runway show, even if she’s just taking her three sons to the Zoo!

Halle Berry, Heidi Klum, Padma Lakshmi, Nicole Richie, First Lady Michelle Obama, and one of our favorite new Mommy’s Sandra Bullock, all made the list!

We were even surprised to see a number of reality show celebrities grace the list, which includes Real Housewives of New York star Countess LuAnn DeLesseps, Keeping Up With the Kardashian’s Kourtney Kardashian and Bethenny Getting Married? star and new Mommy Bethenny Frankel.

But why, oh why, wasn’t Jennifer Garner on this list? To us, she represents one of the most down-to-earth and yet glamorous Moms in all of Hollywood.

How she can get dressed in casual chic, wearing jeans and a comfortable yet stylish sweater, to pick her daughter up from day care or just run errands with the two girls….

…to looking absolutely stunning on the Red Carpet at the 2010 Golden Globes, embodies what is truly a best dressed Mommy. Because, as everyone knows, there’s a time and a place for heels and a ball gown and the sand pit at your local park just isn’t one of them! Hopefully the Babble editors will add Jennifer to the list next year!

In the meantime, we’re still waiting to see the Top 50 Best Celebrity Nursery list! We’re pretty sure you’ll find a lot of Bonavita nursery furniture in that roundup.

So, who do you think is missing from this list? Which celebrity – based on their sense of style – do you think has the most stylish nursery? Leave us a comment and let us know!

Emmy Mommies

(Photos courtesy of People’s Celebrity Baby Blog)

Sunday’s Emmy night featured the usual glitz and glam with star powered couples and some of Hollywood’s hottest Mommies making their way down that red carpet! But, the one Mommy making the biggest splash – who unfortunately did not walk away with the award for lead actress in a comedy series – was Parks & Recreation star Amy Poehler. The new Mommy to son Abel James, her second son who was born on August 6th, looked absolutely incredible in a pale blue Maz Azria gown and Stephen Russell jewelry. Dressed so elegantly, we can just imagine what the boys nursery must look like back at the home she shares with husband and veteran actor Will Arnett. Being the sons of two comedians, we’re pretty sure there’s plenty of humor in that nursery!

Perhaps the biggest announcement, which did not come in a sealed envelope but was announced live on E!, was news from their correspondent and Watch with Kristin TV columnist, Kristin Dos Santos. The veteran TV journalist is expecting her second child in February! Some people send out formal baby announcements, while others break the news on live, national television. Congratulations Kristin! This baby will join big brother Luca Alexander, who is 16 months old. Kristin will probably just be turning Luca’s crib into a toddler bed by the time the new baby is born!
With children so close in age, it’s really easy to keep both a newborn and toddler in the same bedroom especially with the Bonavita cribs!
